Recently, our factory upgraded an organic fertilizer production line for a farm in Oromia, Ethiopia. The newly installed specialized fertilizer crusher has been operating stably for three months. This equipment upgrade not only resolved the local issue of incomplete raw material pulverization but also increased the overall efficiency of the production line by 30%, demonstrating the flexible adaptation of Chinese fertilizer equipment to African agricultural needs.
The Ethiopian customer’s production line primarily uses coffee grounds and cow dung, mixed with a small amount of sugarcane bagasse. Previously, due to the high crude fiber content (approximately 35%) in the raw materials, traditional crushing equipment struggled to refine the material to the 80-mesh standard required for granulation. This resulted in uneven granulation and a yield of only 75% for the finished product. To address this issue, the newly installed crusher utilizes a two-stage crushing design: a hammer crusher initially reduces bulk material to less than 5mm, while a toothed roller grinder further refines the material to 2mm. Combined with an adjustable speed motor (5-15Hz), the crushing size can be precisely controlled based on the raw material characteristics. The upgraded data shows significant improvements: the qualified rate of raw material pulverization jumped from 62% to 98%, the disc granulator’s granulation rate increased to 90%, and particle uniformity (3-5mm ratio) improved by 25 percentage points. Due to the thorough refinement of the material, the microbial contact area during the fermentation stage increased, shortening the composting cycle from 12 days to 10 days. The daily production capacity of a single production line increased to 8 tons, meeting the fertilizer needs of the customer’s expanded plantation (adding 200 hectares of tea plantation).
“The pulverization equipment has transformed the fertilizer quality,” said farmer Abeibei during the inspection. The upgraded organic fertilizer granules have a hardness of 7N, a 40% increase compared to the previous one, and the loss rate during rainy season application has been reduced by 15%. More importantly, after applying the refined fertilizer in the tea plantation, the soil organic matter content increased by 0.8 percentage points within six months, leading to an estimated 12% increase in coffee production, equivalent to an annual increase in income of approximately US$45,000.
The equipment’s localized design ensures stable operation. To address Ethiopia’s voltage fluctuations, the crusher is equipped with a wide-range voltage stabilizer (200-440V). To adapt to the dusty environment, a three-stage dust filtration system is installed to reduce equipment wear. The user interface supports switching between Amharic and English, facilitating operation for local workers. Our factory also provided remote guidance for installation and commissioning, and collaborated with our spare parts warehouse in Addis Ababa to provide 24-hour fault response.
This upgrade demonstrates the “custom-tailored” service advantages of Chinese fertilizer equipment. We will continue to focus on the characteristics of African agricultural raw materials and provide modular equipment upgrade solutions to help improve the quality and efficiency of the local organic fertilizer industry and promote sustainable agricultural development.
